Ongoing Initiatives
SGB is committed to continually building an inclusive culture with ongoing supportive initiatives that reflect the shared values of colleagues, clients and community.
Continual Learning at SGB
SGB pursues opportunities for firm-wide training sessions that address unconscious bias and cultural competency. We're grateful to our thought-partners who continue to lead and challenge through this ongoing work.
Growth through Discussion
Monthly staff-led Grub and Grow education sessions provide an opportunity for discussions about current justice-oriented topics. Recent sessions have included:
- Non-violent communication
- The life and work of Suzanne Pharr, queer feminist and anti-racist organizer
- The work of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
- Of Counsel attorney Jeff Robinson's work and The Who We Are Project
- Ecotourism's effect on local populations, wildlife and the natural environment
Building Equity Into Our Culture
We know that justice must begin within our own walls. We are committed to embedding equity into the systems that shape our culture. Some of the actions we’ve taken include:
-
Recruitment & Hiring: Adding equity-focused questions to our interview process and sharing questions with candidates in advance.
-
Onboarding & Training: Incorporating conflict resolution training as part of orientation.
-
Ongoing Dialogue: Hosting monthly equity team meetings with staff, attorneys, and shareholders.
-
Performance & Growth: Adding equity as a component in performance conversations.
-
Decision-Making: Forming cross-functional teams to ensure a diversity of voices.
-
Feedback & Learning: Conducting regular surveys and openly sharing themes from exit interviews.
