With the Washington State Legislature back in session, SGB attorney Elizabeth Hanley returned to the Capitol on Friday to testify in support of HB 1496 – legislation that would remove financial barriers preventing patients from accessing their own medical records.

In 2019, after a long career working in Puyallup dental offices, Elizabeth’s late client Linda was wrongfully terminated after requesting to work from home during her treatment for Stage 4 breast cancer. When she sought justice, her case became stalled because of the exorbitant fees charged by a national records vendor to obtain her own medical records.

The flawed system and its unnecessary costs delayed Linda’s justice – this should not happen to anyone.
